ACCOUNTS BANNED
ArenaNet has banned accounts due to then exploiting a bug that allows you to get lots of exp. Exploitation Policy 17 June 2005 as players may have noted, we took action to close a game exploit today. We would like to remind players that the willful use of exploits is against the EULA and the Rules of Conduct. Several players who used the exploit have had their Guild Wars accounts permanently banned. If you find an exploit, please contact us directly through support@guildwars.com. We are grateful for the assistance of the community in such matters, and will attend to reports as promptly as possible. I hope that none of the SPX members have done this. for more info go to the link below http://www.guildwars.com/

I checked that out durin when I was sellin some stuff in LA. Does anyone one know what the bug was? All I know is it was exploited.

Well, they fixed it so I guess it couldn't hurt to share. After the patch, defeating your mirror granted you 50k xp instead of automatically boosting you to level 20. The exploit was done by killing your mirror, then closing the client (ALT+F4) during the cutscene after. You would reappear in the Augury Rock after you logged back in as the server thought you hadn't completed ascension yet. People were repeating this upwards of 30 times (for 50,000 xp a shot) before Anet was forced to close off Augury Rock until they fixed it.

k, thx Ackir. Er....wow, more skills points. Just what I need

Mashekle- 06-19-2005

Lol... Well I cant really talk about it other than what akir already told you, but just rest assured that Anet does not ban people who have not SERIOUSLY earned it. :)

You know I read the Fansite Friday for last friday and I have always wondered wy people play games and then use bots. Do people get some kind of pleasure from not playing a game? This is one of the reasons why I don't play WoW, that game is moded eight ways from sunday. My brother plays and alone he has a program that takes him places. Whats the point in that!? I'm glad GW bans those players that try to gain an unfair advantage over others.

Ackir *SWR*- 06-19-2005

That's just it, though. You don't really get an advantage over someone by farming/grinding.

Mashekle- 06-19-2005

So akir, someone uses a bot to farm for 500 hours in a row, and unlocks hundreds of runes, allowing possible access to every rune in the game, and they have no advantage?? Please explain.

DrumFire- 06-20-2005

good call...

Nakashima- 06-20-2005

ahh i have to agree with drumfire GOOD CALL MASH -ITS FUN-

Ackir *SWR*- 06-20-2005

The only advantage that person would have is flexibility. Any Joe off the street can suit up an un-upgraded pre-made and easily defeat someone who spent a huge amount of time on their characters.

Mashekle- 06-20-2005

I beg to differ. You use the term easily... This simply isnt true :D With access to sup vigors, and sup attribute runes, you DO have an advantage. :) Also with all that farming you will have the needed skill points TO get all those skills. As you may know now its tough to get enough skill points to get every skill in the game. As for skills, yes the person will have more skill options, and therefore more flexibility. But your forgetting runes. They add quantifiable rewards. So yes farming can make you more powerful.

Valentine- 06-20-2005

But your forgetting runes. They add quantifiable rewards. So yes farming can make you more powerful. Which makes sence, but not on ANet's end. They promoted this game as a game that requires skill not time. Any one should be able to compete no matter how long they farm. But those who have played much longer/farmed the good runes definitely have a slight advantage.

cian bloodbane- 06-20-2005

you're right. Maybe they should make runes a lill cheaper. But I hate it if areanananet should give them away for free. Than you also can just remove vigor and absorption runes.

Peros- 06-20-2005

Runes are like the the foundation to getting money. Now, money is the real issue here. You see once you star up the bot and have it start farmin and gettin some nice Gold Armor. You can sell those for well over 12k-15k a piece, and thats raking in some serious money. And you played the bot for 500 hours you say!? well right now, your inventory is full of Gold armor that you'll sell. And look you have over a couple 100k. And what, you wanna buy a superior vigor? The best freakin weapon that has max modifer, max mods, and max dmg? Well look, no worries you have money and you can buy it all and still have some left over. Oh, and you want more? Well you now can get the extremely expensive UW armor (which has no benefit but it will kill your opponents in a cool contest). Just grab a few more superior runes you need and your character is set. Its not hard to get the right skills for your character so that shouldn't take long. And now you have everything that can be possibly attained and now its maxed. Now....compare this to someone who doesn't have a bot. This is what I believe to be the reason for bots banning. I agree with Valentine, that bots will give a slight advantage. That extra dmg can go a long way or having max whatever attribute to give you the extra edge. And bots are what can give you that easily. Now sure, sooner or later the normal non-bot guy will attain this but it will take a lil longer. And thats what I think Anet wants to see done.
