Why do we have dreams?

In the scientific world, they claim that we dream to exercise the synapses, or pathways, between brain cells, and that dreaming takes over where the active and awake brain leaves off.

In the psychological world, they believe that dreams deal with immediate concerns in our lives, such as unfinished business from the day, or concerns we are incapable of handling during the course of the day. Dreams can, in fact, teach us things about ourselves that we are unaware of.

I would like to theorize that our dreams, are actually spiritual adventures. Assume for the moment, that we are soulds, or spirits, that are trapped in these fleshy bodies, while we are on this planet. Now then our human bodies need to sleep, because of physical limitations. Our bodies need to rest, and eat, and sleep. However our souls would not need to adhere to any of this. Our souls would not need to sleep, therefore why would it just shut off? It wouldnt. Imagine now that while your body is sleeping, your soul is not only still awake, but also exploring, and experiences real things.

Imagine that our souls leave our bodies during sleep. Now imagine that our spirits can exist in the spirit realm. That would explain all the weird things that happen.

Now Imagine that our physical bodies limit our souls. Imagine that when we are out of our bodies, we want ourselves when in body to remember certain things. Maybe past events, or certain people, or even the future. That would explain why we remember some dreams, and not others.

These are simply thoughts to get your mind to working. I feel that we often times take what other say for granted. And we never ponder other possibilities. We simply accept what we are told, and never research. Both theories on why we dream, are exactly that "theories" Not proven, just guessed at. ;)
