Can we truly go back to the past, or into the future?
I'd like to try and avoid the scientific here as much as possible.
If we truly can go into the past.... if it truly does still exist, and isnt just a measurement like some believe.... What does that mean for us? Does that mean that we are like movies? Are we like games that can be played over? How about the future? Is it really even worth trying to do what you want... to follow your dreams? If the future can be traveled to then does it already exist? If so then nothing we do can change it. Or is it more believable that the future has yet to be determined, and thus going to the future is impossible?
A future that hasnt been decided yet feels better to most people, but is it true? Say we are on a one way track that has been ordained already. It would certainly explain destiny. But does it mean that no matter how hard we try, we will be nothing more than what we are destined to be? How about murderers?? If the future cannot be changed then they were always meant to be murderers.... What does that say of religion? Has your god created murderers and rapists on purpose?
Consider now that the future is yet to be fully determined. This means that what we do, and choose in this life actually matters. Our choices actually mean something. This option feels right in my heart, what about yours? This option means that we can choose how we want our stories to be told, but also it means that we must accept that our failures are ours alone. We must then be held accountable for the bad things we do as well as the good. This path is more difficult, but more rewarding as well.
Some believe that every possible choice that could ever be made, has been made, and exists in its own universe. This is a condensed version of the "multiverse" theory. Endless universes all branching from each other. In this belief we are all murderers, rapists, and saints. We have all done everything possible for us to do, only in different universes. But in this theory the human soul isnt fully taken into account. How can we exist in so many duplicitous universes and still be a single entity? Or is this proof that the human soul does not exist?
Some believe that our soul simply chooses the best universe to occupy, and that we may have jumped universes many times. In this belief existence as we know it is very very complex, and very scary. Think about it... if we jump from universe to universe to suit our desires, or needs, that means we are surrounded by mindless bodies devoid of souls. With an endless amount of universes to choose from, how do we even know our loved ones are really here, and not off in some other universal reality? Do you believe this option is even possible?
Finally the most sensible option. Most things in the future are unknown, but many things are already predetermined. Whatever deities you believe in have pre ordained certain things to happen, but not all things. We are allowed to do as we please within certain guidelines. With this option, psychics could still function, but time travel cannot.
Going into the past? To enter the past the present must halt, otherwise our souls would need to exist now, and in the past with the traveler.
And what about dead people? Would their souls need to travel back from where they are just to occupy their bodies in the past? Otherwise the past would be filled with soulless shells, instead of real people. Unless you believe that the past still exists as a sort of stored movie. Then maybe yes you could go there, but no changes could be made. It would be educational but fruitless if you intended to change anything.
Just something to think on. _________________
